Why Rasasi Fattan is More Than Just a TDH Clone

Have you noticed how Fragrance Clones have become so popular now in the fragrance industry

And why not? They offer the original scent at a fraction of price!

Clone as the name suggests is a replica of the original creation.

You will often find terms like “dupes” or “inspiration” used interchangeably with clone; the terminology varies, but the intent remains the same.

The global dupes market was valued at USD 2,700 million in 2024 and is expected to reach USD 7,000 million by 2030.$

While most clones simply mimic the original, some brands elevate the original DNA into a true masterpiece!

Rasasi Fattan a clone of Terre D’Hermes is one such masterpiece.

Let’s dive into it..

Rasasi: One of the most reputable perfume brands

Founded in 1979 by Abdul Razzak Kalsekar, Rasasi began it’s journey with a single local shop in Dubai & now owns over 165 outlets in 60+ countries.

Fragrances like the Hawas & Shuhrah brought more popularity to the brand.

Rasasi launched the fragrance Fattan Pour Homme in year 2018.

In Arabic, Fattan means individuals with a charming and attractive personality

Certainly, the Fattan Pour Homme has the potential to amplify your charm.

Opening Notes

Let me ask you a question first.

Has this ever happened to you, that you forgot to eat an orange when it was fresh and later it turned slightly overripe?

Did you notice how this overripe orange smelled like?

Especially its rind (peel) portion, little darker and bitter compared to the fresh orange.

The opening of Rasasi Fattan has this Overripe Orange Rind note which smells fresh & fruity but a little like bitter orange.

You will definitely find this opening unique!

After the overripe orange you get a pepper note, adding a spicy & salty character to the fruity opening.

When we hear pepper, we instantly imagine the commonly used black pepper, right?

But In Rasasi Fattan a Pink Pepper note is used which is less potent & finer than the black counterpart.

This makes Rasasi Fattan more versatile and wearable.

Along with orange and pepper, there is Grapefruit too in the top note, another beautiful note in perfumery.

How often do you eat grapefruit? Is that a common fruit for you?

If you are an Indian then probably Grapefruit is not a common fruit in your household.

As Indians we relate more to the smell of oranges or lemon from the citrus family.

Grapefruit along with its citrus appeal has a unique metallic tinge, which is slight blood-like.

See how the inner part of Grapefruit looks like too, little reddish in colour.

Such metallic or mineral tinge is evident in Rasasi Fattan’s opening and makes it unique.

Middle Notes

After about 30 minutes of Citrus splash and pepper spiciness, opens the heart of this fragrance- the Vetiver.

Usually, vetiver along with its green effect has an earthy, root-like note.

But the Vetiver used here in Fattan is more breezy, sweet, and green.

The absence of this earthy note makes Fattan modern and versatile.

A Cooler Combo

If you reside in India, you would have tried the Vetiver based coolers during childhood called Khus Sharbat.

The Citrus, Vetiver and Pepper combination in Fattan will give you a cooler like freshness.

This fragrance is a typical summer day green fragrance.

While citruses, vetiver, and pink pepper constitutes 90% of the scent profile, the rest 10% notes add complexity & richness to Fattan’s DNA.

These notes are as important as the main ones.

The Magic of Rest 10%

After about 1 hour mark, the middle notes start to shine and this is where the remaining magic begins to unfold.

This is the point where Rasasi differentiates itself from the “Clone” category.

After 1 hour mark, a floral note starts to dance around.

It is so fine that you may miss it.

This floral note is of a white flower called Lily of the valley.

It feels gentle, delicate, soft, slight sweet and green.

Imagine it is summer and you took out freshly washed white linen out of the laundry

This is the exact note that you get after 1 hour, the freshly washed linen scent.

The fresh floral side of Rasasi Fattan puts it into a daily-use scent category.

There is also Oakmoss in the base note in trace amounts and it brings a crushed dry-grass and pine-like effect.

Base Notes

You will also find hints of Cedar in the dry down, existing silently in the background.

After about 2-3 hours you can also trace very faint powdery side which is due to Amber.

These notes are acting as background characters & enhancing the overall experience.

Performance

In India the fragrances do not perform the way they do in a cold or dry hot country.

Fattan’s retention & sillage is good for the first 3–4 hour mark but needs reapplication after that.

You will have a silent confidence around people.

Ideal for whom & where

The Vetiver and pepper blast can be off-putting if you are very new to fragrances and are exploring.

But if you have tried the basic entry level designers like Dior Sauvage or Versace Pour Homme, then you will like this.

Fattan will be appreciated by people of all ages. It is an all-rounder. No brainer.

Ideal for office, interviews, beaches, summer morning, brunch, beer with friends, house parties and even clubbing.

The scent profile doesn’t recommend wearing it to dates or a candle light dinner setting, it will feel little casual and out of place.

You can avoid it for family gatherings too; it lacks that warmth. There the Terre D’Hermès becomes a better, cozier alternative.

Reasons to buy- Rasasi Fattan Vs Terre D’Hermès

Why Rasasi Fattan-

  • Casual everyday use
  • Best alternative of Terre D’Hermès DNA
  • Value for money
  • Blind-buy safe
  • Good gifting option

Why Terre D’Hermès-

  • Well-rounded fragrance
  • Niche quality ingredients
  • Brand value of Hermès

How are both different?

You remember we spoke about the absence of earthy Vetiver and Patchouli note in Rasasi Fattan?

The same earthy note you will find in Terre D’Hermès (TDH)

There is also a warm sweetness coming from Benzoin that makes TDH feel very high quality.

In TDH every note has its subtle presence making it feel well rounded. Whereas, Fattan is Citrus, Vetiver, and peppery combination throughout.

TDH has a black pepper note that makes it little serious, dark, and warm.

It is for the individuals who enjoy more complexity and refinement in their fragrance.

But this refinement comes with a big price tag.

Conclusion

Though Rasasi Fattan is inspired by Terre D’hermes, but is built very differently.

The Magical 10% notes add little complexity to the fragrance too.

In comparison to TDH, Fattan feels like an overall better package.

So if you are someone looking for one good summer fragrance without spending much, then Rasasi Fattan is ideal.

If you love earthy vetiver, more complexity and if you can swing the price, buy both the fragrances.
