Boucheron Jaipur Homme EDT Review: The Jewel of the Perfume World

Boucheron Jaipur Homme EDT review

Introduction

This review centers around a brand named Boucheron (bu·chuh·rawn) and the name of the fragrance is Boucheron Jaipur Homme EDT

Boucheron is a luxury French Jewellery brand renowned for it’s fine craftsmanship, imaginative design language, and use of exquisite premium gems.

Boucheron’s Jewellery caters to a certain class of customers and is not mass marketed. Though the brand has a strong global presence, Boucheron does not have a dedicated standalone showroom here in India.

In 1988, Boucheron entered the world of fragrances with it’s first perfume named Boucheron for women.

With this a wider range of customers were able to experience the essence of the brand because the perfume was both reasonably priced and of a good quality.

In 1994 Boucheron launched an another fragrance Boucheron Jaipur Homme EDT, named after the Indian city, Jaipur.

Today Jaipur Homme EDT has become one of the top selling fragrances from Boucheron. What makes it so special ?

The theme of Jaipur Homme EDT comes from Boucheron’s Indian inspired ring design- The Jaipur 18K Lapis Lazuli Gold Ring.

Boucheron Paris Jaipur 18K Lapis Lazuli Gold Ring

The design of this ring is very classic and elegant. It is completely opposite to the lean designs that are popular nowadays.

The lapis lazuli stone on top grabs the attention through its magical quality.

The design of Boucheron Jaipur bottle is inspired by this ring, wherein the cap gets the similar golden grooves and at the top is a dome that resembles with Lapiz Lazuli stone on the ring.

Boucheron Jaipur Homme EDT is Boucheron’s Jewellery in a perfume bottle.

About the Fragrance

Boucheron Jaipur Homme EDT is elegant, mysterious, old school and attractive. It is sweet, citrusy, and oriental.

The sweetness here is nothing like the fruity clubbing fragrances which appeal to the masses, but rather a classic-vintage sweetness that comes from a mix of Benzoin, spices, and floral notes.

Boucheron Jaipur Homme EDT review top notes

In the first few minutes itself you will know what this fragrance is going to be, it does not keep you guessing.

The perfumer wants the wearer to see the whole picture right away. So, the fragrance expresses itself loud and clear in the first two hours and eventually settles down in a very linear form.

The top notes listed are Bergamot, Lime, and Lemon. This fresh opening lasts hardly for about 10-15 minutes but adds a breeze of freshness to the overpowering sweet note coming from the base.

The sweet note could be mistaken for a Vanilla and amber note, but it is Benzoin which adds that sweet vanilla and amber like note.

Benzoin- Oriental Sweetness

Benzoin is deep, sweet, and oriental compared to Amber-vanilla fusion which is why it is popularly used in the Middle-Eastern perfumery. The western perfumery uses Benzoin for imparting a soft-oriental touch.

Benzoin is a balsamic resin derived from Styrax trees

In India, Benzoin is commonly known as Loban. It is a popular incense ingredient in the Islamic tradition.

You can find Khadim walking with an incense burner in their hand through which they offer smoke to the shops around. This smoke comes from burning Benzoin with charcoal.

Jaipur Homme EDT does not have an incense burning note. There is a sweet powdery note of Benzoin.

Other Middle & Base Notes

As you smell past the sweet Benzoin bubble, there are many more ingredients that are at the play.

The most evident ones being Cinnamon and Cardamom.

Cinnamon note gives Jaipur it’s classic vintage touch and the Cardamom pull it towards the modern scent, keeping the fragrance relevant till date.

There are green and white elements coming from Jasmine and rose in the middle note. These flowers perfectly hug around the Benzoin and spicy core adding an air of gentleness to the fragrance.

Amongst the base note it is Benzoin which shines the most. There is also Cedar which feels very fine and regal.

Representing Royalty

Boucheron Jaipur has the elegance of a French perfume with an Oriental flair and a touch of Indian spices.

There seems no direct connection of the fragrance with city of Jaipur but I can imagine wearing this fragrance while entering a classic Jewellery shop inside a royal palace.  Where there are warm carpets laid around, warm lighting, vintage wooden décor, and some exquisite Jewellery displayed in glass shelves.

Occasions

Jaipur Homme EDT is a versatile fragrance.

You can wear it literally anywhere from dinners, warm celebrations, brunch, going to a café on Sunday morning, dates, palace or a museum, and to a classical music orchestra.

If you accept this fragrance from your core, you can even pull it off for clubbing or parties.

Audience

Jaipur will be more appreciated by individuals over 30 years of age whose olfactory palette has matured after using the popular fragrance and is now open to unique fragrances.

Performance of Boucheron Jaipur EDT

Jaipur offers a good sillage and longevity in the Indian climate. I have tried this even during hot summers under the heat but it dint give me any headache, so I really trust the fragrance.

You can avoid spraying it initially on your chest or wrist while you get used to the initial burst of sweetness.

With Jaipur Homme EDT, 2-3 sprays are enough to give you a day of performance. I recommend going 1 spray on each arm and 1 behind the neck. It will easily last for 10 hours.

Projection is very good in the first 2 hours.

Packaging

The design is unique and is sufficient to convey you the theme. But since Boucheron is known for its fine Jewellery the in-hand feel could have been better.

The cap seems little flimsy and has a light plastic feel to it. Outer carton is of standard quality.

The shape of the bottle is unique and resembles to a palace.

Considering the cost and the quality of perfume liquid, packaging can easily be traded off.

Conclusion

  • Scent- 9/10
  • Longevity- 9/10

  • Projection- 9/10

  • Price Value- 10/10
