Don’t Buy Dior Sauvage Until You Smell Prada Luna Rossa Carbon!

Prada Luna Rossa Carbon

Prada fragrances exude a sense of luxury and sophistication, yet with Luna Rossa Carbon, they’ve ventured into bold territory, taking on one of the most formidable contenders in the designer fragrance arena.

Prada Luna Rossa Carbon is built on the DNA of a most popular fragrance, Dior Sauvage. But what Prada created here is not a flanker (or copy), rather a more refined version of Dior Sauvage.

Inspiration Behind Luna Rossa Line

Prada Luna Rossa line is inspired by the extreme sailing competition for which the Luna Rossa boat was created by Italy in 1997.

Prada launched over 5 fragrances under the name Luna Rossa through which Prada wishes to communicate their values of Performance and Innovation.

The overall design theme of Red & White looks different from the other Prada bottles. The Luna Rossa designs look very advanced, sporty and sharp.

Now let’s talk about the perfume!

Opening Notes- Great to Start your day!

Top note has Bergamot and Pepper responsible for the sweet and fresh opening. But it is not just the top note that evokes this beautiful opening, it is a glimpse of the entire experience.

Noted Breakdown of Prada Luna Rossa Carbon

Luna Rossa Carbon opens like a fresh, woody & musky shaving cream, a beautiful and fresh opening that feels very unique. It is that kind of opening that give you an instant confidence to start the day! Very elegantly done.

Middle Notes- Very Well Played, Prada

There is a floral component to the middle note due to Lavender. The quality of Lavender here is very rich.

The way Lavender smells in isolation vs the Lavender which is being used here are completely different.

You can hardly trace the typical floral sweetness, the perfumer has painted this Lavender note so beautifully.

There is also leafy earthiness to the fragrance, the earthiness that otherwise comes from a vetiver-based perfume. There is no vetiver in Luna Rossa Carbon. But it is the Soil tincture and Charcoal bringing the earthiness quality for Prada.

Additionally there are Metallic and Marine notes that gently remind you that its a fresh fragrance.

#Base Notes- Inspired by the Popular DNA

In the base note there is Ambroxan which is reminiscent of Ambergris, a sweet, musky, animalic and balsamic natural ingredient used in perfumery.

Ambergris is extracted from the waste material discarded by sperm whale and is very rare, hence expensive too. It’s one of the few natural perfumery raw materials which cannot be “cultivated”.

There is no such particular area where Ambergris can be consistently found with success.

This is why a synthetic replica of Ambergris called Ambroxan is widely used in the fragrance industry. Ambroxan can add magic to a fragrance. Hence many popular fresh perfumes in the market are Amrboxan rich.

But if not used right, Ambroxan can make a perfume feel sharp and clawing. So much so that one can get nose blind to other notes of the perfume.

In Luna Rossa Carbon the Ambroxan is used very finely. There is also Patchouli used in the base.

Resemblance with Dior Sauvage

If you search online for Prada Lunna Rossa Carbon, the internet is flooded with reviewers and customers claiming that it smells similar to Dior Sauvage.

Lets break this down to see what are the similarities and ultimately which one is better for you.

The top notes i.e. Bergamot and Pepper are identical in both the perfumes. If you come down, the middle note has Lavender in common and the base notes have Ambroxan and Patchouli.

Notes Comparison between Dior Sauvage & Prada Luna Rossa Carbon houli.

In total there are 5 materials common between Dior Sauvage EDT & Prada Luna Rossa Carbon EDT. Which is why Luna Rossa Carbon is being directly compared to Sauvage.

Many reviewers also feel that the newer batches of Luna Rossa Carbon have a Geranium note too, adding a deep rose-like floral nuance to the middle note.

So, Which One Is Better?

In my humble opinion, both the fragrances are amazing in their own ways.

Dior Sauvage being the hot seller has been on the top list for years. It has changed the dynamics of the fragrance market.

Even customers new to fragrances know or have heard about Dior Sauvage. That is the popularity Sauvage has created in the community.

And due to this popularity, it has even chipped off a market for its flankers.

Prada was always known for its luxurious line. But didn’t have a signature line that could cater to the ‘fresh fragrance’ market opportunity.

In the Luna Rossa Carbon, they have used the Sauvage’s DNA, tweaked it in the right places and the outcome is a very gorgeous, a refined version of Dior Sauvage.

And personally, I now find the Luna Rossa Carbon better than the Sauvage.

So Why is Sauvage So Popular?

Because anything that performs, wins!

Sauvage is known for its powerful silage and projection. If a person wearing Sauvage is around, you can immediately sense it.

You would have sniffed the Sauvage at least once in your lifetime, even if you do not wear it yourself. It has a scent bubble no one can ignore. It is built to get noticed.

But this does not mean the Luna Rossa Carbon EDT has a poor performance. It will not project as wildly as the Sauvage, but will stay on your skin for a good amount of time.

If you want to buy a fragrance that has the Sauvage-like DNA, but more pleasant, then Prada Luna Rossa Carbon can be a good alternative.

How to Get Performance Like Sauvage?

On some days you would want the Luna Rossa Carbon to project more, so I recommend going up to 5-6 sprays. 2 sprays on each arm, 1 spray on back of your neck, 2 sprays on the front of your shirt and 1 on the back of your shirt.

And if you want the fragrance to last more, it is best to reapply it after 4 hours.

Packaging & Pricing

The Luna Rossa line has a different design language than Prada’s other offerings. The use of red and silver in the theme makes it unique.

This is a range inspired from extreme sailing. Through the Luna Rossa line Prada has challenged the way customers perceive the brand.

With this red and silver design Prada communicates their values of

Prada perfumes are expensive, but you can be sure that the quality of ingredients is going to be top notch. In 2025, Prada Luna Rossa Carbon EDT costs you Rs. 6500/- for 50 ml and Rs. 8000/- for the 100 ml pack- Purchase Link
